Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation

Brave the death-cursed jungles of Chult

PC Mac

Tales from Candlekeep: Tomb of Annihilation is a 2017 digital adaptation of the Dungeons & Dragons Adventure System board games, developed by BKOM Studios. It turns the cooperative, tile-laying board game into a single-player and online co-op video game set on the deadly jungle peninsula of Chult, where a death curse is unraveling the magic of resurrection.

Gameplay

Players take one or more of four heroes — the explorer Artus Cimber, the aarakocra wizard Asharra, the bard Birdsong, and the saurial paladin Dragonbait — into dungeons assembled tile by tile. True to its board-game roots, each turn follows the same rhythm: move and act, explore a new tile (often revealing fresh monsters), then resolve an encounter card. Combat and exploration are deliberately rules-light next to a full CRPG, emphasizing the push-your-luck tension of venturing one tile deeper.

Availability

The game tied into the 2017 Tomb of Annihilation tabletop adventure as part of that storyline’s multimedia push. It was withdrawn from sale on Steam in May 2022 and can no longer be purchased, though copies bought beforehand remain in players’ libraries.
