Buck Rogers: Matrix Cubed

The 25th-century Gold Box saga concludes.

The sequel on the same engine

Buck Rogers: Matrix Cubed is SSI’s 1992 follow-up to Countdown to Doomsday, again built on the Gold Box engine and again set in TSR’s Buck Rogers XXVC science-fiction universe. Players who finished the first game can import their veteran New Earth Organization party and pick up where they left off, carrying levels and equipment into a larger, higher-stakes campaign.

Like its predecessor, it runs on the AD&D-derived Gold Box ruleset rather than a system of its own, which places it among the catalog’s unofficial entries alongside the D&D Gold Box games it shares its engine with.

Plot

A brilliant scientist’s breakthrough — the Matrix Device — becomes the object of a struggle that could decide the fate of the inner solar system. NEO races the Russo-American Mercantile and other factions to control the technology, sending the party from Mercury to the outer worlds across a sprawling, combat-heavy adventure that closes out SSI’s short-lived Buck Rogers line.
